Planning care in Istanbul
Practical details for an international visit. The care checklist also applies elsewhere in Turkey.
Practical planning: appointments, accommodation, language support and returning home.
Planning notes updated 8 September 2026.
Arriving in Istanbul & choosing where to stay
Confirm your arrival airport and the exact consultation and treatment addresses before booking accommodation. Ask the practice which location you will visit for each appointment; the hospital may differ from the consultation office.
Choose accommodation around your appointment locations and access needs. Ask about lifts, a companion staying with you and transport for follow-up visits. Confirm the airport meeting point, transfer provider and price in writing.
Istanbul Airport Sabiha Gökçen AirportYour doctor, facility & consultation
Ask the doctor directly about qualifications, the proposed treatment, alternatives and who will perform each part of care. Confirm the treating facility and request evidence of relevant authorization.
Arrange an interpreter if needed, including for consent and follow-up. Send medical information only through the treating provider’s agreed secure channel. This directory does not receive medical records.
Written costs & what a package includes
Request an itemized quote in a named currency: clinician and facility fees, anesthesia where relevant, tests, medicines and follow-up. Ask whether accommodation, interpreters and transfers are included or separate.
Before paying, confirm the contracting provider, deposit terms, cancellation policy and the cost of extra nights or further care. Ask who handles complications and how these costs are covered. This directory does not sell packages or take treatment payments.
Entry documents & insurance
Check entry requirements for your nationality and the purpose of your visit with the Turkish consulate before booking. Do not assume a tourist e-Visa covers travel for medical treatment.
Ask your insurer specifically about planned treatment abroad, complications and changes to your return journey. Keep written confirmation of coverage and exclusions.
Official visa informationRecovery, follow-up & your return home
Agree where check-ups will take place and who to contact with a concern. Ask the treating clinician when travel is appropriate for you, and confirm any airline requirements. Keep your itinerary flexible; recovery is not a sightseeing schedule.
Before leaving, obtain your treatment record, medication instructions and a written follow-up plan. Clarify who provides care after you return home and who pays for it.
NHS guidance on surgery abroadQuestions for your treatment area
Hair transplant: who is the responsible doctor and who performs each stage? Dental care: how many visits are planned, and what happens if further work is needed?
Surgery: where will the procedure take place, who provides anesthesia and where are check-ups held? Skin treatments: who administers the treatment, what product is used and what follow-up is offered? Ask the clinician to explain the risks and limitations specific to your plan.
Getting around Istanbul
Save the full address and a map pin for every appointment. Check the route from your accommodation in advance, including any changes between transport services. Leave a time buffer instead of relying on a fixed journey estimate.
Use Metro Istanbul for current maps, timetables and accessibility information. If a practice arranges a transfer, confirm the pickup location, contact number, luggage allowance and any extra charges before arrival.
Metro IstanbulChoosing accommodation near your appointments
Choose your location after confirming where consultations, treatment and follow-up will take place. Check the actual route between each address; a familiar district name alone is not enough to judge convenience.
Ask the accommodation about lift access, steps at the entrance, a private bathroom, a companion staying with you and flexible extensions. Check cancellation conditions directly. This guide does not recommend or arrange hotels.
Interpreters & appointment preparation
Confirm whether the doctor speaks your preferred language or an interpreter will attend. Ask who provides interpretation, whether it covers written information and follow-up, and whether it has a separate fee.
Write down your questions before the appointment and ask for important arrangements in writing. Request the provider’s secure channel for any records they need. Do not send health records through this website’s listing form.
Before your return journey
Before choosing a return date, ask your treating clinician about your individual travel plan and scheduled follow-up. Ask the airline about its documentation requirements where relevant; a flight booking is not confirmation that you are ready to travel.
Keep the treating team’s contact details, written follow-up arrangements, invoices and copies of the records they provide. Clarify who to contact after returning home and how additional appointments or changes to your stay would be handled.
General planning information. Your treating clinician should advise on your individual care and travel timing. For an urgent medical concern, seek local emergency care.
